Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal on Monday met with MIAA’s key officers in preparation for Tuesday’s reversion to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Pursuant to existing Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Omnibus Guidelines on community quarantine, MIAA will adopt a 50 percent workforce deployment in back office work.

However, employees performing frontline duties are not included in this directive. These are those assigned in flight operations, terminal monitoring, facilities management and maintenance, security, safety, and emergency services.

Monreal also said that personnel of janitorial companies that have contracts with MIAA should be on full complement despite the MECQ. Security guards contracted by MIAA shall likewise remain on full deployment.

To ensure continuous work, MIAA provides shuttle buses for use of airport workers plying routes covering Manila, Quezon City and Cavite. They are also provided free meals and hazard pay equivalent to PHP500 per day in compliance with DBM Circular 2020-1 dated March 24, 2020.

In a meeting with the airlines, Monreal called on local air carriers to properly inform passengers about rebooking instructions in view of the temporary suspension of domestic flights in and out of Manila under MECQ.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday reverted Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal to more stringent MECQ in response to medical front-liners’ call for a “timeout” to prevent the collapse of the country’s healthcare system after the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases hit over 100,000.
