The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the province continued to rise, reaching a total of 523 after 19 new infections were reported based on the latest data of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Governor Albert Garcia said on Thursday the result of contact tracing showed nine of the new cases had close contact with those earlier tested positive for the virus.

The new cases are from Dinalupihan, Orani, Abucay, Limay, Mariveles, Morong, Balanga City, Samal and Bagac.

The PHO said there are 188 active cases while the number of deaths remained at 15.

Meanwhile, eight recovered from the dreaded disease, increasing the number to 320.

Five of them came from Limay, two from Abucay and one from the city.

Garcia said the threat of the virus is present in and out of homes and it is important for the public to be careful and to strictly follow safety protocols. (PNA)
