The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday said another spike in the total number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases among Filipinos abroad was recorded with 57 new infections in Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East.

These new confirmed cases bring to 9,873 the overall tally among overseas Filipinos.

The DFA also registered 19 new recoveries and one fatality, raising the number to 5,821 and 722, respectively.

As of this posting, the active cases stand at 3,330 — at least 345 are undergoing treatment in the Asia Pacific region, 500 in Europe, 2,323 in Middle East/Africa, and 162 in the Americas.

“As the DFA personnel in our Foreign Service Posts continue to report on the status of Filipinos abroad, the DFA likewise assures the public of its tireless efforts in attending to the needs of our people and facilitating requests for repatriation, whenever possible,” the DFA said in a statement.

Globally, the confirmed Covid-19 cases are pegged to over 20 million, with 737,417 deaths, according to the World Health Organization. (PNA)
