It’s no secret that they have resorted to video streaming platforms such as Netflix and iFlix as an escape during the longest lockdown so far. Even before the pandemic, Filipinos have proven that they are one of the most online people. And they showed that by being constantly updated with the current trends and new releases―may it be local or international.

However, despite the staggering activity that they have contributed, recent data shows that these video streaming services have exhibited a decline in sales. Many of local users cancelled their premium subscriptions after the lockdown has loosened up.

To be fair, the country is still undergoing a lockdown but what could be the reason behind this?

Since the government has imposed less strict guidelines, professionals who are returning to work deemed it unnecessary to have their subscription just lying around when they know that they wouldn’t have enough downtime to go back to it again. The resume of operations to some offices can mean that they have little to no time to engage in such activity anymore.

Additionally, the pandemic has left everyone struggling mentally, emotionally, physically and most of all, financially. Perhaps adding a monthly subscription fee to their budget is the least of their concern.

Those are just a few factors why Filipinos decided to suddenly cancel their subscriptions on Netflix, iFlix, Prime Video, and more. What do you think are the other reasons?
