With the help of the Intelligence Group’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (IG-CIIS), the Bureau of Customs (BOR) seized on Monday a smuggled McLaren 620R that has a market value of P33 Million. Port of Manila District Collector Michael Angelo Vargas issued a warrant of seizure and detention on the shipment.

The luxurious vehicle was declared in the documents as a brand-new Porsche Cayman to lessen the amount of money to be paid for the duties and taxes that is originally amounting to P16.7 Million.

As the vehicle was declared as a Porsche Cayman, which has a lower market value of P6.3 Million, the importer of the car only paid P1.5 Million instead of the P16.7 Million. The amount paid is short of around P15 Million, which is technically cheating on the national coffers.

The people involved and responsible in the smuggling are now facing possible charges for violating section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of RA 10863 of the Law, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
