Five more deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) were recorded in Western Visayas on Saturday, bringing the death toll in the region to 31.

This region recorded Covid-19 deaths for four successive days since Wednesday.

Regional case bulletin No. 134 released by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6), logged the highest record of five deaths in a single day on August 8.

The mortalities were identified as a 57-year-old and 61-year-old males from Bacolod City and Silay City, Negros Occidental, respectively; 40-year-old male and 68-year-old female from this city; and a 48-year-old female from Numancia, Aklan.

The Numancia case was among the 93 new confirmed Covid-19 cases from out of the 1,198 results released by four laboratory centers in the region through the DOH-CHD 6 on the evening of August 8.

Four other deaths were already logged as Covid-19 positive in previous bulletins of the health department.

Meanwhile, there are 92 new coronavirus cases in Western Visayas, of which 66 are local, 16 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and 10 are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).

Of the newly listed patients, 34 came from Iloilo City, 23 from Negros Occidental, 22 from Bacolod City, six from Iloilo province, three each from Guimaras and Capiz and one from Aklan.

Also, 38 are under home quarantine, 48 are facility-quarantined, five are admitted and one died.

On the other hand, the region also has 40 recoveries from Bacolod City, of whom three are ROFs and four are LSIs; seven LSIs from Negros Occidental; eight LSIs, eight ROFs and two local cases from Iloilo province; five LSIs, one ROF and one local case from Capiz and one local case from Iloilo City.

The 92 new cases brought the total cumulative cases of the region to 1,931.

As of Saturday, 943 are active cases, 957 are recoveries and 31 died.

Based on the DOH data, 89.82 percent of the active cases are asymptomatic, 8.48 percent have influenza-like illness and 1.67 percent have severe acute respiratory infection. (PNA)
