The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported 3,226 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the overall tally to 106,330.

The DOH said the additional cases reported were based on the total Covid-19 tests done by 66 out of 94 operational laboratories.

Majority of the newly announced cases are from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,541 cases, Cebu with 503 cases, Laguna with 181 cases, Rizal with 158 cases and Cavite with 129 cases.

It also reported 275 new recoveries and 46 deaths. These figures increased the number of recoveries to 65,821 and the number of deaths to 2,104.

“Of the 46 deaths, 37 or 80 percent in July, six or 13 percent in June, two or 4 percent in May and one or 2 percent in March. Deaths were from Region 7 which is 38 or 83 percent, NCR which is three or 7 percent, CAR which is two or 4 percent, Region 3 which is one or 2 percent, Region 4A which is one or 2 percent, and Region 6 which is one or 2 percent,” the DOH said.

It added that there were 81 duplicates that were removed from the total case count and of these, 10 recovered cases have been removed.

The outcomes of two cases, one was previously reported as death but updated as recovered and one case was previously reported as recovered but updated as death after final validation and these are already included in the count of new deaths and recoveries.

The health department also noted that the country has 38,405 active cases—around 90.3 percent are mild, 8.2 percent are asymptomatic, 0.9 percent are severe, and 0.6 percent are critical patients.

Meanwhile, the case fatality rate is 1.98 percent, the positivity rate is 9.55 percent, the reproduction number is 0.958, case doubling time is 9.04 days and the mortality doubling time is 13.14 days.

As of Sunday, the 72 licensed RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) laboratories and 23 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have already conducted a total of 1,467,723 tests nationwide.

The DOH said it has 17,000 total bed capacity dedicated for Covid-19 patients. Occupied are about 55 percent of 1,400 intensive care unit beds; 52 percent of 11,500 isolation beds; and 56 percent of 4,100 ward beds.

There are 2,000 ventilators for Covid-19 patients with about 31 percent in use. (PNA)
