The insurance industry expressed their gratitude to the national government for allowing the deployment of a skeletal force to enable to process claims amidst strict observance of lockdown directives.

This, after leaders of the insurance sector earlier appealed to Insurance Commissioner Dennis Funa to elevate their case to Finance Sec. Carlos G. Dominguez and Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go.

In a letter to Secretary Dominguez, who is a member of the Inter-agency Task Force and Emerging Infectious Diseases, Funa aired the appeal of life, non-life, pre-need insurance firms and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) to include them among the sectors that provide essential or urgent assistance to the public.

The industry sector requested that they be authorized a strict skeleton workforce to process claims and payments in the duration of enhanced community quarantine and lockdowns.

Early this morning, Dominguez confirmed that the urgent request of the insurance sector has been approved. This was also later affirmed by Senate Health Chairman Bong Go that the green signal is part of IATF-EID Resolution No. 19 Series of 2020.

In his report to the nation today, Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles said health insurance providers, HMOs, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation shall be considered part of health frontline services for the purpose of exempting their workers in the implementation of enhanced community quarantine.
