South Korean film ‘Parasite’ wins big when it bagged Best Picture (the most prestigious Academy award) at the Oscars held today at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California.

The dark comedy film also garnered Best International Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director (Bong Joon-ho). It is the first time a South Korea film was nominated to the award-giving body.

Among its competitors for the Best Picture are: Joker, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Marriage Story, Little Women, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Jojo Rabbit.

I’m speechless,” ‘Parasite’ Producer Kwak Sin Ae said during her acceptance speech. “We never imagined this,” she added.

On the other hand, director Bong Joon-ho, upon accepting the award on stage, joked that he’s ready to drink tonight.

In total,’Parasite’ was nominated for six awards: Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Directing, Film Editing, Production Design, and International Feature film.
