Something truly poignant happens when 2 souls with contrasting personalities and backstories meet together in the vein of love and come to a point of facing the harsh realities of committing to each other. This is the basic premise of VIVA Films’ Valentine’s Day offering “On Vodka, Beers and Regrets”, having dropped its first official trailer last 15th of January 2020.

The film brings back Bela Padilla and JC Santos together onscreen after their successful efforts on 2017’s “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” and 2018’s “The Day After Valentine’s”. The two recently appeared on the successful 2019 Filipino remake of “Miracle in Cell No. 7”.

In this film, Padilla plays Jane Pineda, a once acclaimed child actress who delved into reckless behavior and downward spiral, worsened by the recent breakup from her boyfriend (played by Matteo Guidicelli). Her woes lead her to endless drinking until she meets Santos’ character, a carefree musician and an open romantic. When they soon spark a romance that they cannot deny, the two will have to realize the past mistakes and the present hurdles they must confront.

Much like their previous film efforts, expect this to not only tug your heartstrings but to dive deeper into the hearts of the main leads. But more than just romance, it is a cautionary tale of how love is not always the way to escape your mistakes, as both the characters of Padilla and Santos soon realize.

The film is directed by Irene Emma Villamor, who previously collaborated with Bela Padilla for “Camp Sawi” and “Meet Me in St. Gallen”. Her biggest effort, so far, “Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story” starring Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis, tackles a similar premise of two polar opposites finding solace with each other and end up hurting each other’s feelings. So, anticipate for Villamor to pull off another twist and turn on the romance realm.

“On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets” will be shown in cinemas nationwide on February 5, 2020.
