The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to provide assistance to local government units (LGUs) affected by Typhoon Odette.

In its Monday report, some PHP8.4 million worth of humanitarian assistance have been sent to Regions 6, 8, 10, 11, Mimaropa, and Caraga.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit to the Caraga Region on Saturday, along with DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista and Senator Bong Go, the agency distributed additional 35,000 family food packs (FPPs).

DSWD-Caraga initially delivered 5,000 FFPs each to Dinagat Islands and Siargao via the Philippine Navy and Montenegro Shipping Lines.

Additionally, 1,212 hygiene kits, 1,000 food packs, 300 rolls of laminated sacks, and other non-food items such as family kits, sleeping kits, and collapsible water containers will be sent out to Siargao via the presidential yacht BRP Ang Pangulo.

More than 452,000 families or 1.8 million individuals from Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, Mimaropa and Caraga were affected by Odette.

Over 109,000 families or around 438,000 individuals are still in 2,481 evacuation centers in the affected regions.

The DSWD assured it has sufficient relief items for distribution to affected localities.

To date, it maintains stockpiles and standby funds amounting to more than PHP944 million while more than 377,000 FFPs are stored in strategic locations around the country. (PNA)
