Twenty-six more modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs) will start plying routes in the City of San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan Province.

Nasrudin U. Talipasan, regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), on Tuesday said the Sapang Palay-Grotto Transport Service Cooperative (SPGTSC) launched Monday the brand new PUJs to ply the Grotto-Sapang Palay via Tungko Mangga route.

This brought to 46 the total number of modern PUJs owned and operated by the SPGTSC under the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Talipasan thanked the SPGTSC for cooperating with the government in the implementation of the PUVMP.

“Ang PUV modernization program ay para sa ikakaginwaha at kaligtasan ng lahat ng mananakay lalo na at nagsimula ang pagbubukas ng mga paaralan sa ating bansa (The PUV modernization program is for the convenience and safety of all passengers especially now with the opening of schools in our country),” he said in a social media post.

Governor Daniel Fernando lauded the members of the SPGTSC for their initiative to ensure reliable and safe public transportation in the province.

The SPGTSC is the eighth transport cooperative in the city to comply with the government’s transport modernization program.

The PUVMP is the flagship transport project of the Duterte administration being implemented through the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

It aims to make public transportation safer and more comfortable and to lessen the environmental pollution caused by worn-out and smoke-belching utility vehicles. (PNA)
