Families displaced by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) finally received their housing units in a resettlement site at the Mission Hills Subdivision in Barangay Cabiawan, San Remigio from the National Housing Authority (NHA).
San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. on Wednesday said NHA Regional Manager Rizalino Cabahug led the turnover of the 25 housing units to their recipients on Aug. 12.
“NHA allocated PHP13 million for the housing units and lot procurement given as a grant to the beneficiaries,” Mission said in an interview.
He explained that while the weather disturbance happened in 2013, the resettlement site was established late because the local government had to look for a suitable relocation site.
“Each of the housing units has a 40-square-meter area that is safe from flood and landslide,” Mission said.
He added that the beneficiaries should take care of their housing units since those were given free by the government.
Meanwhile, the Antique provincial board during its regular session on Aug. 17 approved the request of households displaced by Typhoon Frank to use the 100-square-meter lot in the provincial government resettlement site for their agricultural trading post in Barangay Mohon, Belison.
The relocatees have organized themselves to avail of the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (PNA)
