6. Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Another novel about a kid: but Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is extremely inappropriate and incredibly unsuitable for children. Foer’s book assumes the perspective of Oskar Schell, a nine-year-old who sets himself on a quest to discover the secrets he believes his father has left him following his death in 9/11.

The film does not compare to the novel, as it misses out on the candid stream of consciousness which characterizes Foer’s books and makes them so addicting. Emotions in all their raw nakedness: if you’re in the mood for a few tears, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close touches on hope, lost connections, new connections, and brutal truths.
