As part of SM’s commitment to bring joy to communities where it is present, SM partnered once again with Bakod Bayan Integrated School (BBIS) in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija to support the local faculty and provide them with school essentials for the ongoing modular learning of their students. In 2016 SM Foundation generously donated a new 2-storey, 4-classroom building to serve the school along with its Sama-Bajau enrollees.

Employee volunteers from The SM Store and SM Supermarket Cabanatuan distributed backpacks, school supplies, shirts, and shoes for the students. The teachers also received grocery packs and a special gift from The Body Shop as a way of thanking them for their tireless efforts to continue the education of the students despite the current challenges.

“This is a wonderful blessing given by SM to the teachers and students, it feels great to be part of something so meaningful.” Said Oliver Sagurit, from The SM Store.

The summer heat was not a problem for SM’s eager employees as they rolled-up their sleeves and repainted the school building.

“We’re all blessed to be part of this activity, we’re happy because we know all our efforts for the students will a go a long way.” Said Ranela Sangoyo, from SM Supermarket.

The donations arrived as the students and teachers, as well as the parents, are continuing to adjust to the modular type approach to learning. “We are indeed very thankful to have been chosen again by SM to receive these much-needed and timely donations. These donations will make life for our teachers, parents, and students a lot easier” said Artemio J. Dionisio, Principal of BBIS.

“I’m simply happy to be chosen as one of the volunteers today. SM will continue to help more communities just like here in Bakod Bayan.” Said Louie Liwanag, The SM Store Call To Deliver, Sales Representative.

Through this activity, SM hopes to bring joyous cheers and inspiration to students and teachers.

“I’m happy to work for a company that responds to the needs of the community. That’s why when the call went out for volunteers, I did not hesitate and volunteered immediately.” Said Precy Martin, Children’s Fashion Manager, The SM Store.
