Police units across Western Visayas are directed to maximize their participation in school flag ceremonies and appropriate school engagements for the ‘get out-lock out-call out’ initiative.

In a media interview on Monday, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said he has instructed personnel to maximize the promotion of this practice in case of any active threat or similar emergency.

He said the action is easier to remember: get out when it is safe for them to move away from danger; lock out or secure the area, stay out of sight and remain quiet when it is not safe to evacuate; and call out or immediately communicate with the Unified 911 or any authorities once it is safe.

“We were given leeway by our (Interior) Secretary Jonvic Remulla because of the peculiarity of each region when it comes to implementing security in schools,” he said, adding that the initiative is unique only for Western Visayas.

He also announced that the proposed transparent bag was part of the discussions at the Regional Peace and Order Council last week. The proposal has been receiving favorable reception.

Meanwhile, Tuaño led the recognition of the local government units in Guimaras for their support for Project RTT 3389 at the Guimaras Provincial Capitol on Monday.

Project RTT (Restrict, Track, and Turn-In) is a community-based initiative of PRO-6 covering all 3,389 barangays in Western Visayas. It encourages communities, barangay officials and local governments to work with the police in locating and facilitating the voluntary surrender of loose firearms.

Guimaras is the first province in Western Visayas to achieve 100 percent barangay compliance under the project, with 101 loose firearms voluntarily surrendered across its five municipalities.

A total of 98 barangays from the towns of Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo and Sibunag contributed to the recovery effort.

Regionwide, the campaign has yielded 3,583 loose firearms from August to Sept. 25, consisting of 2,478 short and 1,105 long firearms. (PNA)
