Türkiye has expressed its willingness to help and support the Philippine Navy (PN) in future training programs for submarine and surface ship operations.
Turkish Ambassador to the Philippines, Niyazi Evren Akyol made the pledge to PN chief Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta during his official visit to the Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Manila last June 5.
“(During the meeting) he (Akyol) also expressed Türkiye’s readiness to support future training and education programs for submarine and surface ship operations in partnership with the PN,” the PN said in a statement over the weekend.
The Turkish diplomat also extended his congratulations to Ezpeleta on his appointment as PN chief and discussed the upcoming 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025, set to take place this July at the Istanbul Trade Center.
“Türkiye is an old friend, heavily invested in the stability of the Philippines, and a strong supporter of its sovereignty. We are ready to do our best to further strengthen the Philippines’ defense of its rights and sovereignty,” Akyol said.
Meanwhile, Ezpeleta also lauded the 76-year diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Türkiye.
“We are happy to share this long-standing relationship with Türkiye. Thank you for the continued support, especially in enhancing our capabilities. Rest assured of our commitment to sustained coordination and collaboration with your government,” the PN chief said.
The engagement reaffirmed the mutual interest of both nations in deepening defense cooperation and pursuing opportunities in maritime security, interoperability, and capacity development. (PNA)
