Topping off the love of Filipinos when it comes to food, especially in soups, international food magazine TasteAtlas included three Pinoy soups in their Top 50 best meat soups around the world.

On November 16, TasteAtlas released its list of the best meat soups in the world, according to its anonymous critics. Included in the list were Pinoy dishes such as Bulalo, Sinigang na baboy, and Tinolang manok.

Getting the 11th spot is Sinigang na baboy, which was described by TasteAtlas as a “unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine.”

Sinigang is a sour Filipino soup that is made sour by its Sampalok, or tamarind, ingredient. The said dish can be commonly accompanied by different meats, such as pork and chicken, but pork is the most popular ingredient among Filipinos and is commonly served during special occasions such as birthdays and weddings.

“There were new variations that used guava or raw mango instead of sampalok, and each region developed their own version of the popular soup,” the TasteAtlas described.

Bulalo, on the other hand, got the 17th spot on the list with its oozing meat-flavored soup because of its beef shanks and marrow bones that are dissolved into the broth of the said dish.

Bulalo, commonly consumed during cold weather and rainy seasons, was a specialty dish in the Luzon region. Besides its meat ingredient, Bulalo is incorporated with vegetables such as cabbage and corn to add more flavor to the dish.

“It is believed that this simple, comforting, and flavorful soup is best when the meat is so tender that it falls off the bone,” TasteAtlas said.

Last but definitely not least is the Tinolang Manok, which gained the 30th spot. The Filipino dish received a 4.2-star rating on TasteAtlas, highlighting its delicious and nutritious soup.

Composed of chicken and other ingredients such as green papaya and malunggay leaves, this dish became a staple food for Filipinos whenever they needed something to heat up their stomachs but could still be healthy at the same time.

Getting three soup dishes on the list has primarily disclosed that Filipinos are really fond of making delicious foods such as soups to satisfy their cravings. This does not only reflect on the culture of the country but also on the creativity of its people in making healthy and tasty foods.
