Taguig City is on its way to achieving zero Covid-19 cases as it begins its vaccination program.

Speaking during the formal turnover of vaccines at the Lakeshore Vaccine Training and Information Center, Mayor Lino Cayetano said he believes “the road to zero is achievable” and urged the public to take part in the government’s inoculation program.

Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Epimaco Densing said the city continues to “be a model for the protocol for other cities” and congratulated it on its aggressive approach to contain the outbreak.

Public vigilance on health protocols to maintain social distancing, washing of hands, and wearing masks and shields will go a long way in ensuring the city continues to do well in its pandemic management, Cayetano added.

Taguig City has a total population of 1,029,127, with 670,000 eligible for vaccination. The city committed to allocate PHP1 billion to ensure its residents are inoculated for free. It will deploy 200 vaccination teams to serve 630,000 residents in three months.

As of the end of February, Taguig only had 92 active coronavirus cases. Only 183 died among the total 12,069 cases.

The city’s recovery rate is also among the highest in the National Capital Region at 97.72 percent or 11,794 recoveries.

Aside from an estimated 40 community vaccination centers, Taguig is eyeing two more venues as 24-hour vaccination hubs, one in Barangay Fort Bonifacio and the other in Barangay Calzada-Tipas. (PNA)
