The Tacurong City government has allotted PHP20-million to the purchase of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines.

“The fund will be allocated by the LGU [local government unit] aside from the commitment of the national government to provide free vaccines for the target population,” Mayor Angelo Montilla said in a statement Thursday.

Montilla said the most vulnerable sectors and front-liners would be prioritized for the vaccines.

“Once the local funds are available, the Tacurong LGU will likely forge a memorandum of agreement with the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) for procurement arrangements,” Montilla said.

Montilla said the local government would also ask for funding support from the provincial government.

In a meeting with other members of the LCP earlier this week, Montilla said they were briefed on the government’s procurement policies and the timeline of rolling out the vaccines to different parts of the country.

As of Thursday, the Tacurong LGU has 57 active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
