The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s approval of the hike in the subsistence allowance of military personnel, saying the administration is committed to improving soldiers’ well-being.

“The adjustment in our subsistence allowance has long been discussed and was approved as part of the GAA (General Appropriations Act) 2025. Our continuous efforts to ensure the welfare of our personnel reflects our commitment to strengthening the well-being of our troops, especially those who serve on the frontlines, recognizing the vital role they play in safeguarding our nation,” AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said in a message Sunday.

She added that providing adequate support to military personnel has always been a priority as troop strength and readiness directly contribute to “national security and resilience.”

Philippine Navy (PN) spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos, meanwhile, echoed Padilla’s remarks, saying the move would boost the morale of sailors and marines.

“The increase in subsistence allowance underscores the administration’s recognition of our sailors’ and marines’ unwavering dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty,” he added in a separate message.

Alcos added this would ensure that they are physically and mentally prepared to conduct their missions.

He said proper nutrition is essential for sustaining the effectiveness of Navy personnel whether their deployments are at sea, air or land.

Marcos, through Executive Order (EO) 84), approved the increase of the subsistence allowance of military personnel from PHP150 to PHP350.

The adjustment will apply retroactively starting Jan. 1 and will take effect upon publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.

The increase will benefit the trainees and probationary second lieutenants or ensigns undergoing military training, Citizen Military Training cadets on summer camp training and reserve officers, and enlisted reservists undergoing training and assembly or mobilization test, Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit, and cadets.
