A total of 3,000 pinangat dishes were served by the local government of Camalig in Albay province to residents, visitors and tourists during a boodle fight on Friday in celebration of the resumption of Pinangat Festival.

Pinangat is a Bicol Region specialty made from taro leaves, chili and meat stewed in coconut milk and wrapped in coconut leaves.

Tim Florece, Camalig local government spokesperson, said regular and spicy pinangat dishes were purchased from local sellers.

“We bought the products to provide additional income and livelihood to our local producers, and at the same time, we are promoting our product to be known internationally,” he said.

Everyone was invited to taste the dish prepared on the streets, the official said.

The activity was part of Camalig’s mandate and the Department of Trade and Industry’s One Town, One Product initiative that promotes local produce and helps boost local economies.

The Pinangat Festival, which started on June 10, was put on hold the last four years because of the pandemic and eruption threats of Mayon Volcano. It will end on June 24. (PNA)
