A public school in the remote area of the Municipality of San Remigio will establish a makeshift dormitory to cater to learners and teachers.

The makeshift dormitory that will be built at the Sumaray Integrated School in Barangay Sumaray will be funded from a donation during the Brigada Eskwela.

“The Sumaray Integrated School is a catchment school catering to learners from other barangays,” said Dr. Sherill Cortejo, San Remigio District II Officer-in-Charge/Supervisor, in an interview on Thursday.

She said that learners from Barangays Walker Proper and Lapak, situated around five kilometers from the school, had to walk for over an hour daily to attend their classes.

Also, most of their teachers are from other barangays, so they need to rent a boarding house or stay in their classrooms for a night, especially during the rainy season.

“We are fortunate that the Bugasong Multi-Purpose Cooperative has donated an amount of PHP249,892 as part of the Brigada Eskwela for the construction of a makeshift dormitory,” she said.

San Remigio Municipal Mayor Margarito Mission Jr., assured them of support in the construction of the dormitory.

“We would be grateful if there are other donors who could support the construction of the dormitory since we are proposing a two-bedroom facility,” she said.

Meanwhile, Department of Schools Division of Antique School Governance and Operations Chief Dr. Evelyn Remo said that they received 17 bicycles donated for the “Pedal of Hope” program from the Barbaza Multipurpose Cooperative during the kick-off of the Brigada Eskwela on June 1.

The cooperative also donated 150 armchairs.

The bicycles will be for the last-mile learners, while the armchairs will replace dilapidated chairs. (PNA)
