Additional registration centers were activated this month for the Step 2 biometrics process of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).
At least 11 areas nationwide have opened sign-up sites, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced in a recent post, adding that more will open in the next few days.
The initial registrants were accommodated Monday.
These include Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-B, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
“Residents of the said regions, register online or re-login using your mobile number or email address at https://register.philsys.gov.ph to book your appointment,” the PSA post on September 6 read.
PSA inquiries may be sent to m.me/PSAPhilSysOfficial, email address info@philsys.gov.ph, or through hotline 1388.
As of the Aug. 18 data, 26,322,999 Filipinos have finished the Step 2 registration and either have the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card already or awaiting delivery through the Philippine Post.
Step 2 records fingerprints, iris scan, and front-facing photographs.
Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.
The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.
It also seeks to boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions. (PNA)
