Recovery efforts continue in Quezon after the destruction of Typhoon Karding. Senator Win Gatchalian visits the province hardest hit by the recent typhoon to help rebuild the lives of the affected residents.

While electricity supply across the entire province has been restored, more than a thousand evacuees in many municipalities in the Island of Polillo who lost their homes remain in temporary shelters.

Joining Gatchalian is his brother Valenzuela Representative Rex Gatchalian, Quezon First District Representative Mark Enverga, Valenzuela Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, and Valenzuela City Social Welfare Development head Dorothy Evangelista. The city government of Valenzuela earlier passed an ordinance authorizing the release of Php4.3 million as humanitarian and disaster relief assistance to areas in Polillo Island affected by Typhoon Karding in the form of cash and in kind.

Php1 million will be donated to Polillo municipality, Php500,000 to Panukulan municipality, Php300,000 to Patnanungan municipality, Php1 million to Burdeos municipality, Php1 million to Jomalig municipality, and Php500,000 to the municipality of General Nakar. These areas have been placed under a state of calamity through a resolution by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Quezon. Specifically in Burdeos, more than 700 houses were damaged according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The group of the senator today will meet Polillo Mayor Angelique Bosque, Panukulan Mayor Alfred Mitra, Patnanungan Mayor Clara Larita, Burdeos Mayor Freddie Aman, Jomalig Mayor Nelmar Sarmiento and General Nakar Mayor Esee Ruzol to talk about recovery efforts.

Yesterday, a turn-over of school supplies was held in Valenzuela to be donated to affected students of Panukulan through Councilor Syvel Salgo.

“Matinding pinsala ang naranasan ng ating mga kababayan dahil sa bagyong Karding kaya’t nakipag-ugnayan agad ang Valenzuela sa probinsya ng Quezon upang mabigyan natin ng kaukulang tulong ang mga pamilyang nasalanta,” Gatchalian said.
