President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday told the new members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to uphold their posts with courage and integrity, emphasizing the need for visible and principled law enforcement as the country faces various challenges.

Speaking at the graduation of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Sinaglawin Class of 2025 in Silang, Cavite, Marcos told the 206 new police lieutenants to live up to the ideals of public service at all times, especially when their principles are being put to test.

“There will be moments that will test your principles and your convictions. But whenever those days come and doubts creep in, remember who you are and why you chose this path,” Marcos said.

Marcos acknowledged the difficulties confronting the PNP, including internal issues and public perception, but expressed confidence that the new batch of young law enforcers can help steer the institution back to the ideals of honor and professionalism.

“Always take to heart your oath to our Republic, your duty to uphold and defend the constitution, your responsibility to the citizens of our country,” he said.

The President called on the new officers to be a constant and reassuring presence in communities.

“My dear officers, this country will never ask you to be perfect, but it will ask you to be present. Be there. Let our people feel your presence, feel the presence of their law enforcement, feel the presence of the law,” he said.

“This is your chance to make a difference,” Marcos added. “You’re coming this far tells me and the entire Filipino nation that you are ready and that you are prepared.”

The Chief Executive handed diplomas to the 206 graduating cadets, including the Presidential Kampilan Award to Class Valedictorian Marc Joseph Vitto of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro.

The award is given to the top graduate and symbolizes a new officer’s readiness to protect the nation.

Vitto also received the Journalism Kampilan Award from Presidential Communications Secretary Jay Ruiz, and was recognized as Best in Forensic Science and Best in General Education.

In his valedictory address, Vitto urged his fellow graduates to stay true to their mission.

“We are no longer just cadets, we are now guardians of peace,” he said.

“Look at your parents’ faces. See their joy. Let us protect those smiles by staying true to our oaths and living lives that bring honor to our names.”

To the Filipino people, the top cadet gave a solemn vow: You are the reason we are here. Buhay man ang kapalit, hinding-hindi namin kayo bibiguin (Even if it costs us our lives, we will never let you down).

The Sinaglawin Class of 2025 is the first batch of PNPA graduates to be deployed exclusively to the police force, in line with Republic Act 11279, which transferred the academy’s supervision from the Philippine Public Safety College to the PNP.

This marks the end of the traditional deployment of PNPA graduates to the Tri-Bureau – PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. (PNA)
