President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will promote the Philippines’ agenda on peace and security during his working visit from March 9 to 10.

In a statement for his working visit on Sunday (New York time), Marcos said the trip would allow the Philippines to share its experiences and initiatives in promoting peace, dialogue, and cooperation in the international community.

He said he would highlight the country’s achievement in advancing peace and security, including its initiatives under the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

He stressed that his United Nations (UN) engagements would provide an opportunity for the country to present its contributions to global peace efforts, as it seeks a non-permanent seat the UN Security Council for the 2027 to 2028 term.

“This is the other, related, purpose of my visit to New York: to campaign for the Philippines’ candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2027-2028,” Marcos said.

“This candidature is about shared responsibility. It is about ensuring that the voice of the Philippines– and of developing countries – is heard at the highest forum of global peace and security,” he added.

Marcos is set to address the 193 member states of the UN in a special session that will be convened by the president of the General Assembly.

He said he would engage the UN members to strengthen cooperation on key global issues.

“In this platform, I will share the aspirations of the Filipino people for peace and solidarity. I will call for restraint, dialogue and respect for international law,” Marcos said. (PNA)
