City Mayor Jerry Treñas has lauded President Rodrigo Duterte for being able to deliver on his commitments in the past five years of his administration.

As the President enumerated his accomplishments during his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Treñas pointed out that the government’s anti-drug campaign was a success by making communities safe and clipping the drug lords’ evil business and power.

Among those neutralized under Duterte’s administration were Melvin Odicta and Richard Prevendido, both alleged drug lords from this city.

Duterte also delivered on his words to double the salary of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the government soldiers to boost their morale, which the men in uniform, rightfully deserve, the mayor said.

In terms of infrastructure, he said the Duterte administration was able to complete the projects started by his predecessors and even added more projects across the country through the Build! Build! (BBB) Program.

“Overall, I think the President has done well,” Trenas said.

As a three-termer congressman, Treñas said that he does not know if there is still enough time for Congress to work on some of the priority measures mentioned by the President in his SONA like the proposed creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience and Department for Overseas Filipinos.

Treñas emphasized that if the creation of these proposed departments would not add to the burden of the bureaucracy, then they would be a big help.

The mayor believes the Chief Executive’s enumeration of his accomplishments was also a way of soliciting the support of Filipinos in the country’s fight against the health pandemic.

In response to the President’s call, the city government here has been into massive vaccination and will have this sustained as long as there are available supplies.

Treñas said the city was able to vaccinate 15,514 individuals on Monday, the highest so far since the inoculation was rolled out in March this year.

Local government units are doing their best to provide their constituents with protection, he said.

“I have yet to see a local chief executive or an LGU which is not taking care of its people during this time,” Treñas said, in response to the call of the President for LGUs to protect their people amid the pandemic. (PNA)
