Pope Francis urged people to get inoculated with the “authorized” coronavirus vaccine, calling it “an act of love” Wednesday, August 18.

In a video message produced in conjunction with the Ad Council, Pope Francis lauded the researchers and scientists for their efforts to produce safe and effective Covid-19 vaccines.

“Thanks to God’s grace and to the work of many, we now have vaccines to protect us from Covid-19,” he said,

Pope aimed at communities affected by the virus in North, South and Central America said that vaccines “bring hope to end the pandemic, but only if they are available to all and if we collaborate with one another.”

The 84-year-old Pope added that “Being vaccinated… is an act of love. Love for oneself, love for one’s family and friends, love for all people”.

Pope Francis was himself vaccinated in March, saying that getting inoculated was an “ethical obligation.”

“Vaccination is a simple but profound way of promoting the common good and caring for each other, especially the most vulnerable. I pray to God that everyone may contribute their own small grain of sand, their own small gesture of love,” the pope reiterated in his latest video message.

Francis was joined by cardinals and archbishops from Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and Peru for the COVID Collaborative campaign designed for a global audience.
