Despite finding no possible security threat against the upcoming coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine rollout, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is not letting its guard down.

Maj. Gen. Alfred Corpuz, PNP directorate for operations, said this when asked by reporters on Monday whether they have received any confirmed threats from the communist terrorist groups against the convoys that will transport the Covid-19 vaccines.

“Wala naman confirmed na natanggap na ganun. Those are assumptions that lagi naming inaano para mapaghandaan namin (There have not received any confirmed threats. Those are assumptions we always make so we can prepare),” he said.

Corpus also said a tight watch is being kept on areas where there are known communist and local terrorist groups.

“Of course, binabantayan natin. Doon sa ibang bansa meron na nangyaring ganun na yung convoy ng vaccines parang sinabotahe at kinuha (We are monitoring. In another country, a convoy of vaccines was allegedly sabotaged and taken),” he added.

Corpus said these are the things that they have to assume and prepare contingencies for.

He added that PNP chief, Gen. Debold Sinas, has committed the entire police force to ensure the success of the vaccination roll-out.

In his presentation Monday, Corpus said the communist terrorist groups (CTGs) may exploit the program “through propaganda activities to project itself as a pro-people organization”.

Likewise, he said these groups will create disinformation and sow confusion and arouse discontent among the people and highlight the “CTGs’ narrative that the government is incompetent and has failed to provide for the needs of our people”. (PNA)
