The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Saturday that recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-2019) among its personnel are now at 14,477 after the recuperation of 281 officers.

The April 9 report, however, showed that two more officers succumbed to the disease, bringing the police force’s death toll to 42, PNP deputy chief for administration, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, said.

The fatalities were identified as a 48-year-old male police non-commissioned officer assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office who died on April 8, and a 64-year old male non-uniformed personnel assigned to the Directorate for Intelligence who succumbed on April 9.

Eleazar said the PNP’s total active cases increased to 2,456 after reporting 215 new infections.

The total number of police personnel infected with Covid-19 since March 2020 now stands at 16,975.

Of the total active infections, 2,368 are isolated in PNP facilities and local government unit isolation centers while 88 are confined in hospitals.

Amid the increase in the number of cases within the PNP, Eleazar said they would intensify contingency measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

The number of active PNP personnel vaccinated against Covid-19 has reached 4,598 as of April 9.

The figure consists of 2,964 personnel who have received the Sinovac vaccine, 1,456 of whom have been given their second dose, and 1,634 who were inoculated with AstraZeneca.

Earlier, PNP Chief, Gen. Debold Sinas, said aside from their medical front-liners, he wants personnel of the Joint Task Force Covid Shield to be vaccinated against Covid-19. (PNA)
