Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Tuesday said disaster response units have been fully activated and are ready to respond to emergencies amid the threats of Tropical Depression Verbena.

“Ang ating priority ay ang kaligtasan ng bawat residente kaya nakikipag-coordinate tayo sa local government units at iba pang agencies upang masiguro ang mabilis na aksyon sakaling kailanganin (Our priority is the safety of every resident, so we are coordinating with local government units and other agencies to ensure quick action once needed.),” Nartatez said in a statement.

All officers assigned to affected areas are tasked to follow strict safety protocols to ensure assistance reaches those in need, he said.

Nartatez also urged residents to stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, monitor weather updates and prepare emergency kits.

“Huwag rin po tayong magpapadala sa fake news na maaaring makapagdulot ng panic (Let’s also be aware of fake news that could cause panic),” Nartatez added. (PNA)
