The Philippine Army and the Malaysian Army have reinforced defense cooperation and enhanced interoperability through preparatory Territorial Defense and Counter-Insurgency Warfare Operations.

The initiative advanced during the Malaysian-Philippine Army Training Activity Land MALPHI (Malaysia-Philippines) 24/2026, held at Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro from May 12 to 13.

According to the 10th Infantry Division (10ID), Land MALPHI is an annual bilateral training engagement alternately hosted by the Philippines and Malaysia.

The Malaysian delegation, led by Lt. Col. Wazir Syafiq Bin Nodin, commanding officer of the 6th Royal Malay Regiment, conducted reconnaissance and site surveys of training facilities, billeting areas, and conference venues to ensure a smooth execution of the exercise.

Both sides also held coordination meetings and planning sessions in preparation for combined training engagements.

Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, 10ID commander, highlighted the importance of sustained military-to-military engagements in promoting regional security and strengthening professional ties.

“Preparatory engagements such as this enable both armies to establish effective coordination mechanisms and ensure the successful conduct of Land MALPHI 24/2026,” Luzon said, noting that cooperation builds interoperability, mutual trust, and enduring partnership in addressing shared security challenges.

He affirmed the Army’s commitment to advancing meaningful international military engagements that foster operational excellence, collaboration, and lasting defense cooperation among allied forces.

The exercise proper, set for next month, will feature subject matter expert exchanges, cross-training activities, table-top exercises, staff drills, and command post exercises focused on combined arms operations and battle staff planning.

The engagement is expected to further enhance operational coordination, mutual understanding, and mission effectiveness between participating forces. (PNA)
