The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday formally inaugurated its first two-in-one full-motion flight simulator (FMFS) and its training facility.

The FMFS, which will be used for the training of PAF’s helicopter pilots, features two interchangeable cockpits for the S-70i Black Hawk and Bell 412EP helicopters.

“The FMFS provides PAF pilots with immersive, realistic, and safe flight training, enabling them to practice complex procedures and emergency scenarios while reducing the use of actual aircraft,” PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco said in a statement.

Through the use of the FMFS, the PAF aims to enhance pilot proficiency, minimize operational risks, optimize training during aircraft downtime, and contribute to long-term cost savings on fuel and maintenance.

Cordura said the new simulator strengthens PAF’s mission readiness and supports the growing training demands for its expanding helicopter fleet.

Acquired under Horizon 1 of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program, the FMFS, which had a contract of PHP246 million, was delivered by SIMULTEC SRL of Romania in March. It was installed on Aug. 18 and successfully passed the final technical inspection and acceptance on Nov. 30.

The inauguration was held at the Benito Ebuen Air Base and attended by PAF chief Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura, Air Mobility Command head Maj. Gen. Ramil Oloroso, and 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing commander Brig. Gen. Moises Micor. (PNA)
