The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 227 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of cases to 2,311 from 2,084 on Tuesday.

There are now a total of 50 recoveries after one new treated patient — a 59-year-old Filipino male from Taguig City — was reported on Wednesday.

The latest recovery was confirmed positive on March 16 with his symptoms appearing on March 11. He was discharged from the hospital on March 29, asymptomatic with two negative results.

The new confirmed cases of Covid-19 are lower than the 538 recorded on Tuesday, the highest single-day increase in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the DOH reported eight new deaths due to Covid-19, bringing the total to 96.

In a virtual press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire sent her condolences to the fatalities’ kin.

“To date, we have 96 Covid-19-related deaths. Sa ngalan po ng Department of Health, kami po ay nakikiramay sa mga pamilyang naulila (we condole with their bereaved families),” she said.

Patient 692 was the 89th death, an 80-year-old male from San Juan City. He passed away on March 30 and was confirmed positive for the disease on March 25.

Date of death: March 22, 8 a.m.
Confirmed positive on March 27.
