President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday met with executives of the Japanese firm Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd. during his state visit to Japan to discuss the company’s proposed expansion project in the Philippines aimed at strengthening the country’s advanced electronics manufacturing sector.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said discussions focused on Furukawa Electric’s planned expansion involving advanced heat sink modules and thermal management products used in global electronics and digital infrastructure applications.

The proposed project supports the government’s push to position the Philippines as a competitive hub for advanced electronics, semiconductor-related manufacturing, and digital infrastructure supply chains.

The meeting also tackled possible cooperation in technology transfer, workforce development, supplier development, and advanced manufacturing capabilities between the Philippines and Japan.

Marcos has been aggressively promoting high-value investments during his four-day state visit to Japan as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s role in next-generation industries, including electronics, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure.

Japan remains among the Philippines’ top sources of investments, trade, and official development assistance. (PNA)
