President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday called on the over two million government workers to uphold public trust and strengthen a culture of responsive, accountable, and competent public service as the country marks the 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.

In his message to the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Marcos emphasized the vital role of the civil service in ensuring continuity and stability in government across successive administrations and in responding to the country’s evolving needs.

“For more than a century, the Philippine civil service has given continuity across the succession of administrations and the changing demands of national life,” Marcos said.

He cited the merit system that promotes professionalism and fairness in government employment, as well as accountability standards governing public office, as foundations of a resilient bureaucracy.

The President urged civil servants to reflect on the values needed to effectively serve Filipinos, including compassion, integrity, and competence.

“I hope that the activities throughout Civil Service Month will also enable our agencies to examine their own practices and identify practical measures that improve the quality of service our people actually receive and enjoy,” he said.

Marcos called on every government worker to uphold the trust and confidence of Filipinos and help build a stronger culture of service across the bureaucracy.

“Let us forge a stronger culture of service across our bureaucracy and prove, through our daily work, that Puso, Dangal, at Galing (Heart, Integrity, Skills) are not merely ideals we celebrate but standards we live by,” he said.

The Philippines observes September as Civil Service Month to mark the founding of the Philippine Civil Service on Sept. 19, 1900, through Public Law No. 5. (PNA)
