The local chief executive of Agno, Pangasinan, expressed gratitude and commendation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for various national government projects in their town.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mayor John Celeste said the town is set to receive PHP10 million from the national government through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).
He said the PHP5 million of the total amount will be used to purchase rice for distribution to vulnerable sectors or those in need in the town.
“This is timely for the season,” he said regarding the expected weather disturbances that might affect the country in the coming months.
Families in need will receive 10 kg. of rice every two months, six times a year, through the LGSF to help ensure food security for vulnerable sectors.
Celeste said the remaining PHP5 million will be allotted for the construction of a covered area, an extension of their public market to provide a place where farmers and other ambulant vendors could sell their products comfortably.
“So that when they sell their products, they need not be exposed to the sun,” he said.
The funds for the LGSF are now undergoing the required processes through the Sangguniang Bayan and Sangguniang Panlalawigan and will soon be implemented, he added.
“We would like to extend our thanks to PBBM for all the assistance given to Agno,” Celeste said.
The LGSF and the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF) are key components of the government’s efforts to strengthen support for LGUs and communities.
The LGSF offers financial aid to LGUs to help with their priority development programs and projects, while the SCPF finances community initiatives such as educational support.
Among the other projects by the national government for Agno town is the replacement of the destroyed footbridge during Typhoon Emong last year.
The 88-linear-meter-long and 1.4-meter-wide temporary steel bridge was funded with some PHP10 million from the Department of Public Works and Highways’ quick response fund.
The bridge connects Barangay San Juan here and the neighboring southern villages of Burgos town to Barangay Bangan-Oda. (PNA)
