Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara has distributed laptops and bags to teachers and learners in Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), the Department of Education (DepEd) reported Monday.

In a news release, the DepEd said Angara’s visit to Pag-asa Integrated School over the weekend, in collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), is a “historic first” for an education chief.

“With this technology, we hope to lighten the workload of our teachers and unlock the potential of our learners,” Angara said following the distribution of laptops.

He said the initiative is in line with the targets of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure the welfare of teachers and learners and eventually improve the quality of education.

“President Bongbong Marcos has directed us to harness modern tools to strengthen education and uplift the future of our youth,” Angara said. “The government is committed to developing even the most isolated areas, ensuring access to education, services, and security for all.”

Overall, the DepEd distributed 15 laptops for teachers, 109 school bags with school supplies for learners, and 43 footballs.

Angara also held consultations among teachers, parents, and the local government unit to discuss and address education challenges on the island. (PNA)
