Some 200 farming families in Barangay Binubuhan, Bago City, Negros Occidental are benefiting from the PHP9.63-million newly-paved concrete road implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH-Western Visayas regional director Lea Delfinado said on Wednesday the improved road provides a seamless transportation system for the village residents, mostly farmers and planters.

“Farmers can now easily deliver their farm products to the markets (and) save time and expenses in the transport of goods, helping them earn more for their families,” Delfinado said in a statement.

According to a report of the DPWH-Negros Occidental 4th District Engineering Office, the 640-meter farm-to-market road has been paved with a five-meter wide, two-lane concrete cement pavement, which also includes a provision of slope protection such as grouted riprap.

Aside from providing faster access for transport of farm goods, the concrete road also provides for more convenient travel of motorists and commuters as well as faster delivery of basic government services to far-flung communities in the area, it added.

Known as the rice bowl of Negros Occidental for its vast rice plantations, Bago City is the top rice-producing city of Western Visayas and recognized as one of the top rice-producing local government units in the country by the Department of Agriculture. (PNA)
