More than 600 households have benefited from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Walang Gutom: Food Stamp Program through electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards, each valued at PHP3,000.

In an interview on Tuesday, DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio said 606 beneficiaries from Nabua town in Camarines Sur have redeemed their food stamps early this month.

“The household beneficiaries received essential food items, bridging the gap for families facing food insecurity. The food redemption process was crucial in ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most, empowering them with resources to meet their immediate needs,” he said.

Laurio added that ongoing distributions are conducted in neighboring towns within the province of Camarines Sur.

He said the program aims to ensure food security and alleviate hunger across local communities, focusing on sustainable and equitable support for the most vulnerable groups.

“This initiative provides essential food assistance to improve the well-being of families in need. The food credits are allocated across three food groups: for carbohydrates (50 percent), for protein (30 percent), and fiber-rich food (20 percent),” he added.

Laurio said the Walang Gutom Program is not just about distributing food; it aims to create a long-term, sustainable impact that strengthens communities, uplifts families, and paves the way for a hunger-free future.

“This initiative exemplifies the agency’s unwavering commitment to the people of Bicol and its ongoing efforts to combat poverty and hunger in the region,” he said. (PNA)
