The vaccination program of the government has benefitted 5,239 police personnel in Western Visayas, out of which 3,395 have received complete jabs.

Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office Western Visayas (PRO6), in an interview Tuesday said they are lobbying for the local government units (LGUs) to include in their vaccination program police personnel assigned in their area since they are performing frontline duties.

“As of now around 25 percent of our personnel are fully vaccinated,” she said but did not reveal the total number due to security reasons.

The Department of Health has been advocating for the eligible population to avail of the inoculation as an added layer of protection against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection.

As of August 2, some 230 personnel from the Aklan Police Provincial Office (PPO) have complete vaccination; 339 from Antique PPO; 323, Bacolod City Police Office; 432, Capiz PPO; 65, Guimaras PPO; 510, Iloilo City Police Office; 594, Iloilo PPO; 467, Negros Occidental PPO; 430 regional headquarters; and five from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion.

As of August 2, the cumulative number of personnel under the PRO6 that were infected by the Covid-19 has reached 1,107; 138 are active cases, 966 have recovered and three deaths.

Malong said the active cases are isolated in the quarantine facilities of LGUs where they are assigned. (PNA)
