At least 1,148 Senior High School (SHS) graduates from public schools have been hired on the spot during the Labor Day job fairs nationwide, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
In line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure learners’ employability, the DepEd and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) rolled out the job fairs with dedicated green lanes for SHS graduates.
In a statement, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said prompt employment provides graduates with opportunities to break the cycle of poverty.
“Layunin nating mas mapalawak pa ang mga oportunidad na ito upang bawat mag-aaral na magtatapos ng Senior High School ay may sapat na kakayahan at kumpiyansa na makakuha ng disenteng trabaho (Our goal is to expand opportunities like this so that each learner who will finish Senior High School will have enough capabilities and confidence to land a decent job),” he said.
About 5,900 graduates also received free pre-employment documents, including National Bureau of Investigation and police clearances.
Overall, around 11,000 SHS graduates participated in the nationwide job fairs.
In March, more than 1,400 SHS and Alternative Learning System graduates were hired on-the-spot under the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair. (PNA)
