Government agencies in Northern Mindanao are coordinating with local government units to ensure a peaceful Holy Week, while also reminding the public to take precautions against a high heat index.

The Cagayan de Oro City government on Monday released emergency hotline numbers for police precincts, including the 911 national emergency number, to centralize public assistance.

It also advised residents and visitors to observe health measures, such as staying hydrated and bringing necessary medications, as the heat index is expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Meanwhile, the province of Camiguin has announced specific visiting schedules for its tourist sites.

Brigadier Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, director of Police Regional Office 10, said over 1,500 police personnel have been deployed across Northern Mindanao to maintain peace and order, particularly in areas where people are expected to gather.

“As we observe the Holy Week, we are now observing a heightened alert across all units,” he said during a Monday briefing.

Police also reminded the public that election campaigning is prohibited on April 17 and 18. (PNA)
