Ang Dakilang Teatro ng Daigdig, the Filipino adaptation of the 1634 masterpiece El gran teatro del mundo (The Great Theater of the World) by the reputable dramatist and poet of the Spanish Golden Age Pedro Calderon de la Barca, will be back on-stage beginning Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Directed by Philstage Gawad Buhay Awardee Nonon Padilla, the full-length production presents the Filipino translation by Carlos Palanca Memorial Awardee George de Jesus III with seamless incorporation of the 1967 one-act play Hoy, Boyet by the multi-awarded Filipino playwright, lyricist, psychic journalist, and portraitist Tony Perez.

Combining the mastery of acclaimed artists into a new creation, it intertwines the distinct characteristics of the Spanish classic drama and the Filipino contemporary theater in one show.

First performed in 2019 by the young student-artists from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Ang Dakilang Teatro Ng Daigdig is an allegorical depiction that follows the Catholic Church doctrine that unravels the essence of man’s existence and impermanence. As a teaser, the 2022 iteration was likewise performed at the Opening Night of the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, the newly built Blackbox Theater of the CCP.

In this re-evaluation and reflection, both the characters and the spectators are immersed in decisions and actions, the value of life and free will, as well as the idea of the true and perpetual being.

The restaging features performances from the distinguished theater personalities who reprise their roles: Frank Rivera as Ang May-Akda and Sherry Lara as Kagandahan.

Completing the roster are Ranz Aganan (Virgilio, Buwan, Rosauro) and Allen Orolfo (Renato, Araw, Eduardo), while the Chorus will comprise of Jacob Perez, Maureen Aviles, and James Lanante.
