National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr. on Tuesday welcomed a Spanish historian known for his distinguished scholarly contributions.
Jose, together with NHCP researchers, met with Professor Roberto Blanco Andrés of the Universidad de Valladolid during a courtesy call.
Andres is famous for his contributions in ecclesiastical history, colonial governance, and cultural heritage.
His extensive body of work continues to illuminate the complex historical ties between the Philippines and Spain.
He had a discussion with the NHCP researchers about various ongoing research projects of the Commission.
The topics ranged from the historical foundation of Philippine towns to studies on religious orders such as the Augustinians and the Recollects, as well as exploration of potential archival sources for deeper historical inquiry.
Among Professor Blanco Andrés’ recent notable contributions is his work on the volume “1762 British Invasion of Spanish-Ruled Philippines: Beyond Imperial and National Imageries,” a collection of proceedings from the Annual Philippine Studies Conference at SOAS University of London.
This publication, co-produced by the NHCP and SOAS, offers fresh perspectives on a pivotal moment in Philippine colonial history.
Jose expressed gratitude to Andrés for his visit and the valuable exchange of knowledge that enrich Filipinos’ understanding of Philippine history and cultural identity.
