The Davao City Diversion Road–Buhangin–Tigatto Road (Buhangin Gallera Section) here officially opened on Monday, providing relief to motorists and easing congestion at the Milan intersection in the Buhangin district.

In an interview, Dean Ortiz, spokesperson for the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Davao Region (DPWH-11), said the new road, costing some PHP28.3 million, will help reduce traffic during the monthlong closure of the Buhangin Underpass, which will undergo repairs starting April 17.

“This opening will have a big impact in easing traffic, especially at the Milan intersection,” Ortiz noted.

The 396-meter road connects Tigatto junction to Carlos P. Garcia Highway and is now fully completed.

Ortiz added that the project was prioritized to coincide with the underpass repair works, expected to last around 30 days.

He also announced that the Laverna Bypass Road near the airport may open in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Ortiz confirmed the demolition of the pedestrian overpass along Bajada, citing public safety concerns given its dilapidated condition.

“We are still in the planning stage for its replacement, but rest assured there will be a new structure,” he said. (PNA)
