To maintain unhampered public service amid the pandemic, a new modular hemodialysis facility was launched at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City on Wednesday.
According to its Facebook page, the Quezon City government said the new facility has 20 dialysis stations that can service up to 60 patients per day.
The modular hospital, constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), will serve as a stand-alone facility for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients that need to undergo hemodialysis.
A 32-bed air-conditioned dormitory complete with amenities for healthcare workers was also opened at the NKTI.
The project is also in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
Present during the inauguration were QC Mayor Joy Belmonte, National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, Testing Czar Secretary Vince Dizon, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque, and NKTI Executive Director Dr. Rose Marie Liquete.
Villar said the hemodialysis facility was built using prefabricated panels and has wide hallways, two isolation rooms and four hepatitis rooms aside from dialysis stations that cater to 60 dialysis patients per day.
The pop-up hospital is equipped with air-conditioning equipment, CCTV monitoring and paging system, nurse station, water treatment room, and generator set for an alternative power source.
The modular dormitory, on the other hand, features a toilet and bath with a water heater in each room, a spacious air-conditioned hallway, living area, dining area, kitchen, and laundry areas for the health workers of NKTI, Villar said.
The project was conceived by the formed Task Force for Augmentation of Local/National Health Facilities and the NKTI Management for the Covid-19 patients with compromised kidney or renal problem who needs to undergo regular hemodialysis treatment.
It was implemented by the DPWH Bureau of Construction under contract with Nationstar Development Corporation.
Meanwhile, Belmonte also visited Covid-19 inoculation sites for individuals under the A1 or the medical front-liners, A2 or the senior citizens, and A3 or persons with comorbidity priority groups in the city.
Belmonte went to Ateneo de Manila University and Robinsons Magnolia where the barangay-assisted booking for Barangay Kaunlaran was held.

The local government said the city’s current vaccine supply is limited and urged their constituents to wait for further announcements on the next vaccination schedule via their Facebook page.
