Negros Occidental’s provincial government is providing a financial support of PHP11.74 million to its 341-strong delegation to the Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 31.

On Saturday, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the releasing of allowances and other assistance to the athletes, coaches, chaperones, trainers, officials and support personnel in a ceremony witnessed by Department of Education – Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent Gladys Amylaine Sales at the Capitol Social Hall here.

“As you prepare for the Palarong Pambansa, carry with you not only the goal of winning medals, but also the values of discipline, humility, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Compete with courage, represent our province with honor, and continue to inspire other young Negrenses to dream bigger and aim higher,” the governor told the student-athletes.

Negros Occidental’s delegation comprises 266 athletes, 43 coaches, 14 assistant coaches, and 18 chaperones.

They are part of the contingent from the Negros Island Region along with Bacolod City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.

The financial assistance is provided for training and other pre-Palaro activities, as well as for actual participation in the Palarong Pambansa.

Each athlete is provided with playing uniform worth PHP1,500; playing allowance, PHP4,000; shoe allowance, PHP2,000; and training allowance, PHP9,600.

They also receive transportation allowance during training, as well as during the Palarong Pambansa proper.

The coaches, assistant coaches, chaperones, and trainers also have their own uniforms and allowances.

“To our coaches, trainers, teachers, parents, and support personnel, thank you for your patience, sacrifices, and unwavering guidance. Behind every successful athlete is a community of individuals who continue to believe, encourage, and inspire them to become better every day,” Lacson said. (PNA)
