Medical front-liners from various city and municipal health offices in Negros Occidental participated in the simulation exercise for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination initiated by the Provincial Health Office in Murcia town on Friday.

The dry-run, held at the Cansilayan National High School covered court, is part of the preparations of the provincial government for the arrival of vaccines for the general population in the coming months.

Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said through the activity, the local government units (LGUs) were able to observe the proper protocols, stages to comply, and time required for every vaccinee, and look for areas for improvement.

Dr. Jessica Pama, assistant provincial health officer, said they have to ensure physical distancing and fast turn-over process as well as allocate logistical needs and medical equipment and facility.

As host of the activity, Mayor Victor Gerardo Rojas said he is thankful for the support and cooperation of every concerned department and office that contributed to the success of the simulation exercise.

Other officials who observed the activity were Provincial Board Members Juvy Pepello and Manuel Frederick Ko, and Dr. Elizabeth Altamira of the Department of Health-Western Visayas.

The provincial government has committed to buy 100,000 doses of vaccines, primarily intended for medical front-liners, through an agreement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Philippines Inc.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said for the remaining Negrenses, he has asked for three million doses from the national government.

The three million doses will reach some 70 percent of the province’s total population, or some 1.5 million Negrenses needing two doses each.

Last week, Lacson ordered the activation of the Covid-19 Vaccination Task Force that will lead the province in systematically and efficiently utilizing the vaccination strategy to combat the virus and also in the preparation for the arrival of the ordered vaccines. (PNA)
